I’m Racquel, or “Racq” for short. I’ve been racing bikes since I started school, when I began BMX racing at the age of 5 and continued that until I discovered Road and Track cycling at the age of 11. I haven’t looked back since! You could almost say I’m more comfortable on two wheels than I am on two legs… Asides from riding my bike, my other loves are cats/animals in general, and gorgeous nails!
Over the years I’ve managed to snag myself a couple of National Titles, on the road and the track. I’m currently the NZ Criterium Champion and the NZ & AUS Madison Champions along with my team mate, Michaela Drummond. I’m also defending champion 2 years running for the Elite Womens race for Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge.
I’ve been in love with this sport since day one, and I truly do not think I could do anything else. My childhood dream was to go to the Olympics and represent our beautiful country on two wheels, and in 2016, I did just that! It was my greatest honour pulling on the black and white with the Silver Fern in Rio for the Womens Team Pursuit, and now I’m aiming for Tokyo in 2020. We finished 4th, which is so bitter sweet! It’s fair to say, the whole experience has left me hungry for more.
It was a long road to Rio, but one that was well worth the journey. My only regret would be not having Toot Kit along the way! The kit is amazing; style, comfort and performance, all in one. It doesn’t get much better than that!
